Someone on Threads asked the question,
What do you think about George Conway running?
So I’m here to give an outsider opinion…
I’ll say this up front. I like George Conway.
I follow him all over the place on social media. I like what he has to say and he has Corgis, so he’s right up there in my estimation.
He reacted appropriately to Trump1.0 and ever since. Seems a ‘stand up’ guy, willing to admit when wrong… I like what he’s been doing with his funds…
However…
He’s Anti-Trump, but does that automatically mean he’s a Democrat?
My worry is that the Democratic Party has been pulled further right and your media calls it moderate…
This is how it worked…
Old school moderate Republicans (mRs) left the party in disgust immediately in 2016 and a constant stream after. The ones who believed in the fundamental principles of Republicanism as it stood in the BFF (before Fetid Führer) days - that left them politically homeless, so many started searching…
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party had been going through its own shift BFF - the centre of the party, ‘the party machinery’, had been convinced by Clinton1 that the ONLY way to win was to syphon off votes from the Republicans, so suddenly the Party figured it needed Clinton 2 and started moving to the Right and calling it the ‘moderate’ position or the centre…
But they were slowly leaving the traditional Base (tB) behind, leaving them feeling homeless, until the Rise of Bernie, someone who started speaking to the tB - Bernie’s rise terrified the mDs,
‘He’s too radical 😱’
so that was snuffed out. Candidate Hillary.
Leaving the traditional Base homeless, until evil populism gave them a home with the Fetid Führer. So either they connected (MAGA) or totally disconnected from politics (the apathetic)
AOC showed that you CAN win, by sticking true to the traditional Base principles, again the mDs (ex mRs) freaked out and suddenly…
‘She’s too radical 😱’
So the mDs (ex-mRs) are closer to the Right extreme of the actual democratic Base, but they discredit AOC because they think she’s the ‘radical’.
Ask any Democrat if they think politicians should accept corporate money?
AOC et al’s USP - No corporate money
Ask people if they think there should be universal healthcare? Minimum living wage?
Ask the average person if they would agree with any of her policies, without spin, they would say yes…
The so-called ‘radical’ policies are seen as basic rights in Europe.
And even we still have growing inequalities…
The Left leaning party dilemma, do you chase the Repulicans or energise the apathetic?
One continues the status quo, the other fundamentally changes the party… you could sense the fear by how long it took them to endorse Mamdani - Hochul, read the room beautifully, because she listened and realised that most of the things he wanted to do were very popular.
I haven’t studied his policy platform yet to see if George Conway is an ‘mD’
If his policy platform is centred on fixing the broken system, about eliminating/vastly reducing the wealth inequality, then I would say jump on it.
Any wealth tax proposed (and there should be one) would affect him too, so it’s either going to be a huge part of his platform or it will play NO part in his platform.
If he runs on ‘I hate the Fetid Führer’ and little else, I would be wary…
A conscientious voter in his constituency should enquire about his policy platform, not about his previous or current connections….
What are his views on abortion? Healthcare? Worker’s rights? Wealth Taxes?
********
To any Democrat running for office, especially if you’re running this time because you hate what’s happening in your country…
I say, decide what you believe and run on that… run on conviction and belief not Party.
Speak to EVERY SINGLE CONSTITUENT,
Ask them what they need to improve their lives,
Then look them in the eye and tell them what you believe in and how you want to help them get there.
Then stick to your promise when you win…

George Conway would have to turn out to be a total hypocrite for me NOT to vote for him. Of course, he may well turn out to be full of what makes the grass grow green. But, somewhere deep in my head, I don’t think he is. Let’s face it, he was married to Kellyanne. If that didn’t make him more self aware, nothing could.
But, to your point, yes the Democratic Party is going too far in the wrong direction. Whether out of fear or ignorance, I don’t even venture to guess.
We have a citizenry here in the U.S. that is uninformed, misinformed, apathetic, and uneducated in terms of our history and the way our government works (or is supposed to work).
We need people who will fight. AOC is one of them. Mamdani is, too.
But most importantly, we need to convince people to VOTE. Even if the Orange Felon tries to make it difficult to do so. If we don’t vote, he wins, we lose, and America dies.
